Magic Leap, which has raised over $500 million from investors, one being Google, has been creating its high-tech AR glasses in secrecy for quite a while now. But it looks like we might be seeing aspects of the project come to light. Suddenly overnight, Magic Leap has gone from a highly funded secretive project to a reality thanks to a released video that supposadly shows footage shot directly through the Magic Leap with no special effects or composting. And it’s amazing.
They also updated their website and it looks pretty snazzy.
Speaking at the WSJD conference in Laguna Beach, CA, the company’s president Rony Abovitz said “We’re actually gearing up to build millions of things. We’re not ready to announce when we’re shipping, but it gives you a signal that we’re not far”.
The company is using an abandoned Motorola factory in south Florida and is now working on the manufacturing process.
We don’t know much yet about Magic Leap’s device or what it looks like, but Abovitz has described it as a small, self-contained computer that people will feel comfortable using in public. It’s rumored to involve retinal projection, evolved out of surgical research. (Abovitz’s previous business involved medical devices.) I can’t help but wonder if aspects of the Google Glass tech was shared with this project.
What could could millions of AR Magic Leap headsets on the market mean for porn? Of course porn producers will jump at the opportunity to bring porn to reality. Imagine watching VR porn where the action is actually happening on your couch or in your bed. Watching virtual girls strip naked and seeing their clothes actually hit the floor. It’s going to be amazing. It’s going to take VR porn to another level that is hard to imagine just yet but is ridiculously exciting.
